Cuando Era Una Niña Pequeña
When I was a little girl
I was a shy girl
in a big world
looking outside a big window
knowing that I was afraid
holding my mother's hand.
Once I let go, I’ll never
ever hold my mother's hand again.
I learned at an early age
that it does not matter
how much rain comes
out of your eyes
because the pain will never go away.
I’ve been to 5 cities in wisconsin
I did not want to be moved around
like a piece of furniture but I was.
I’ve heard of distress in foster homes
we were trained to never feel the pain
now I’m painless because I've gone to hell and back.
I’ve lost so many things…
though god has gave me love, the peace and the strength
for all I have lost.
I’ve had some excellent teachers
that taught me to speak English
even though I still speak Spanglish.
I saw my brother
I saw my brother
go away like you're trying to catch
a bus when you are late.
I was too late..
but I knew I would see him again.
I still remember when I was 4 years old
playing with a soccer ball
In the big fields of Ecuador trying to score
I did not make a lot of scores,
so many goals…
I hold too my Latin roots like
you hold your Starbucks and UGG boots.
When I was 17 years old
I was wanted by the Henkel family
I was loved
I was cherished
I was Adopted.
