"Why let others set your parameters if they don't even know your name?"

I feel the monsters creeping,
Holding fast without doubt;
The fear prohibiting me from sleeping,
Then, the tears come streaming out.

My stomach churns,
My insides whirl;
My throat burns,
My head twirls.

Eyes sting from the salty tears,
The monsters gnarl their hands to suffocate;
Heart surges because of fears,
I see the monsters are my fate.

Screams echo in my head,
My knees buckle for they are weak;
I just really wish I were dead,
Then, I walk to the front to speak.

This piece is about my experience with being very, very, extremely shy and having anxiety and being forced to get up in front of a class to make a presentation. It is complete torture, and you really do fell like there are monsters that are trying to suffocate you from the inside out.
