A moth beats its wings against the glass,
its companions lie,
flat and dried,
pinned, preserved for eternity,
frozen and forever waiting on eyes
that will ever only see them as they were.
Its fight is a silent dance,
a heartbreaking waltz in an infinite vacuum.
Its paper white wings are weak and
powerless against the encasement of man.
You’re a martyr,
graphite voices reach through the veil.
Die easy, voices crawl into its fight.
With no strength left, the moth falls into line,
among its statuesque companions,
a hero.
