Life is related to a semicolon; a semicolon represents a sentence that could have ended, but did not.

From dusk to dawn,
We are silenced,
We are shushed,
We are told there is no way
Our own opinions are going to
Matter.
So we put on masks
To hide our true words,
To hide our true passions.
We spit words wanted to be
Heard,
Rather than the deadly venom
Of the truth.
No one understands he is also
Silenced at home
By a drunken father,
Leaving unneeded, unwanted
Wounds
Upon his beautiful body.
No one cares that she is
Silencing herself,
Popping pill after pill,
Only to become the
Perfect child,
Perfect student,
Perfect person.
Blue pill, pink pill,
Red pill, white pill,
All sliding down her
Tightened throat.
Ordered by doctors,
Wanted by parents,
Issued to her.
The black ooze,
Slowly running down their
Ugly jaws,
Are the words she is forced to
Listen to,
Day, after
Day, after
Day.
They do not know
Why, or
How
They've held on this long.
Maybe to feel her soft
Heartbeat.
Maybe to hear his loving
Words.
They debate amongst their
Own minds,
Whether the struggles shall
Reveal what they have been
Pondering,
Dreaming,
Silenced about.
They try to balance
Holding their heads high,
And looking as miserable as
Everyone expects them to.
Come down from your
Protected tower.
Never again
Shall your meaningful
Words
Be silenced.
Speak your mind,
Speak your actions,
Speak your truth.
Run from those who
Scold you,
Run toward those who
Praise you.
No longer surrounded,
Your soul may be
Set free,
Released.
Allow it to
Fly among the birds.
Never allow it to be
Blurred
By everyone else's
Powerful,
Hurtful thoughts.
You may...
No.
You will go far.
Open up, and
Release yourself,
Your words.
Never be silenced.
