A Sudden Signal MAG
The red and white signal,
combined with blue water, like a French flag.
That water, silent around it, smooth and unbroken.
Something stirs beneath it,
sending shivers through the calm expanse.
I tense.
I tighten.
Waiting for the strike.
All my attention on that one signal,
that one object keeping my hopes alive.
Slowly, it inches downward, tingling my spine.
Ripples begin forming.
I clench and unclench,
waiting, and waiting.
Waiting for my time.
The glass shatters.
The porcelain smashes.
The liquid once motionless, now moving fiercely,
Man pulls up,
fish pulls down.
It is done.
