"Why let others set your parameters if they don't even know your name?"

Childhood feels like ice cream sliding and melting on your face, hands, and down your throat;
It feels like jumping into a pool for the first time: cold and refreshing.
It feels like soft, warm footy pajamas;
A mother’s comforting embrace;
A ride on Daddy’s shoulders.

Childhood smells like fresh woodchips and rusting playgrounds;
It smells like chocolate chip cookies, crayons, and dirt.
The faint smell of Mommy’s perfume;
And of Daddy’s cologne.

Childhood sounds like shrieks of joy and cries of pain and sorrow;
It sounds like Veggie Tales and Little Einstein VCR movie tapes, sing-along CDs, and Dr. Suess stories.
It sounds like a mother’s heartbeat;
A father’s prayers;
And ‘I love you’s.

Childhood looks like the excitement of going to Disney World for the first time;
The serenity of knowing you are safe;
The joy of play dates;
The fear of the first day of 4K;
The disgust of vegetables;
And the carelessness of actions in life.

All of these things make up childhood;
But they also make up everything you are.
It is like the foundation of a building;
Without it, everything would come crumbling down.
