Dance;
You can express yourself
You can lose yourself
You can find yourself
You can be yourself.
Forget
About any of your troubles
Though there is pain,
It is worth all of it.
When the words aren’t
There
Your body knows just what to say.
You want to be incredible,
But there’s always more to learn
You want to be under the sparkling
Lights
With no direction, just emotion
Guiding your every movement
Buns, leotards, hairspray and shoes are
Nothing alone, but together they create an
Artist
We stand at the barre doing plies and
Tendus interpreting the movement
According to each dancer's ability.
Counting in eights, the teacher corrects with gentle
Hands
She believes in her students.
We endure through long rehearsals preparing
for the intimidating stage that we all love.
Our feet, constructed of bunions and blisters ache with
Pain
With arms of strength and beauty,
They move like *ribbons of steel.
We tie our shoes, frayed from overuse,
And glide across the floor with full
Commitment
Ballet is a way for dancers everywhere
To express themselves
To lose themselves
To find themselves
To be themselves
It is one thing to dance and another to be a
Dancer.
