Ghosts don't haunt us. That's not how it works. They're present among us because we won't let go of them. - Sue Grafton

There's a lonely house on a lonely hill

Abandoned and forgotten.

The walls rot and decay

A reminder of the ways thing are and always will be.

The lonely house once lived a glorious life

The halls bursting and bubbling with the sounds of life.

Then, one by one the people left.

The house became lonely

A deep sadness brewing.

The once splendid house became a reminder of the past

A reminder of the things that were and never would be again.

The house's heart began to crack

The cracks showing through the walls.

The house's heart broke, the pieces

scattering its memories

The memories that once used to matter the most.

I was inspired to write this when I was on the bus going home and saw an old abandoned house.
