When the Last Grave Has Emptied
Once alive, now buried under dirt,
our hearts beat only with the movement of the earth,
and we shift only when the worms crawl beneath our skin,
and we respond only when the memories claw at our skin.
We can now sink back into we drowned in- dirt,
and slowly be absorbed back into the earth,
yet we were born onto this earth,
so we cannot stay, we cannot grow our skin,
anew, so rotted away in the confines of dirt,
but time has passed and we have shed our skin,
digging away the dirt that has bound us to this earth.

The title draws inspiration from The Black Dahlia Murder's song of the same name. This is from a compatilation of poems I made for personal use. All of the poems in this compatilation were a title of a song from this band.
