Hardships
The first time that I met you
Left me wondering
How much was there in you?
How much had I seen?
You seemed a little broken
You'd gone through more than I
I'd been under covers
But you had seen the sky
And even though it hurt you
You made me wish to be
A little bit more like you
Because you seemed so free
Maybe all the hardships
That people can go through
Maybe they don't break us
The way we think they do
Maybe they add spirit
To what used to be empty
Maybe they can build us
And our destiny
