Of the grandfather clock

Hands of metal, hands of flesh

no more buttons to press

6:00am at best

      Tock

       Tock

"And does she still sleep

while rhythm we keep?"

"I'll stir her with my anthem, still

strong and still deep."

Dong

Dong

Dong times three

Silence to break

An old friend to wake

A long, ancient song

to suit one who aches

Tick

      Tock

Tick

       Tock

Rhythm is broken

by breathes in the morn

Ears hear, then adore

the

Tick 

       Tock

Tick

       Tock

of the old, faithful grandfather clock

 

"Dear friend, must you and your

young ones pull me

from dreams every night,

of youth and of flight,

With your tick tocks tick tocks and

dong dong dongs?"

 

"My young have all gone,

yet you're here today.

Oh won't you all stay

to tick my life away?"

 

And so

Tick

       Tock

Tick 

       Tock

answered every one of the clocks

Though they knew that their words

the woman could never know

The time they tracked, in fact, was all

that they could ever show

Besides, of course, their everlasting

tick tock tick tocks

 

"We'll stay to the end

and assist you, our friend

And when father is gone,

we'll continue the song

of our

 

tick tock tick tock tick

tock tock tock
