Red and I

Red is the colour of
my favorite new sneakers worn
by this petite person’s skinny ankles
Red is the colour of
my coat which is highly famous
for being worn only when
I go see my best friend

Red is the colour of:
all my favorite fruits, pomegranates
and strawberries and plums
(though they are scarlet- a shade);
some flowers that I gave away
on the day before today;
the fire kindling in my soul
the chirpiness that you adore

Red is the colour of
Driving a new Maserati down
A dead-end street

Red is the colour of
the fur pillow that I hug ever so tightly
on days I can’t do naught but cry
Red is the colour of
my conscience, that tiny quirky voice
as he tells me to apologize

Red is the colour of
that little red-chest Robin who
Emily called hope: the thing with feathers
Ever-singing, Never-leaving

Red is the colour of
my words when they ring with truth
And discover perfection on their own
Red is the colour of
The utter ecstasy of seeing a smile
That I created

And red will be the door
to that home I see in my daydream
with a big bronze doorknocker
instead of a bell

And red will be the mailbox
where I’ll kneel to collect in my palm
Words from a faraway land

And although Meow says
that technically hearts are pink
I’m damn sure mine is red

Hey there Saphira, what's it like in 20-city? I'm a thousand miles away but all your poems sound just so pretty.. haha sorry, had to get that song out of my head. I love how the poem started on a rather light-hearted note and then gained more power while maintaining the same level of...uh.. bounce. Awesome, as always.
