In the woods
Dark and Cold
Owls staring
Traps set out
Precarious rocks and roots
In pitch black
Scramble through the trees
Cross the rivers caked with ice biting my feet
Trip on roots and fall onto the unforgiving terrain
With splintered wood and shards of stone
Dawn comes
See the sun peak between the trees
I look down to my skin pierced and frostbitten
In the clear white snow
Stand up and continue on the journey
Out of the woods
Starving, tired, freezing
Collapse in an abandoned cave
Coming out when I gathered my last bit of energy,
I see smoke rise from a chimney
Fire
Home
Run to safety
So cold
Need to get warm
But now it is too late
The fire blew out
There is no sign of smoke
It is dark
My legs gave out
I lay on the ground and watch the snow fall
I wished that I could be a snowflake
Free in spirit and distinct in pattern
Falling on the ground as soft as a pillow, to be greeted at home
To be part of a family
Ice crystalizes onto my flesh
Wait for the snow to thaw while it stings and leaves my skin crying in pain
Finally stand up and
Chase for freedom
I see light
Or is it
Disappointment?
