When I kiss you
I catch myself thinking about what groceries I need to buy
Or whether New York street vendors are allowed to use styrofoam containers
Or how many more minutes I need to stay
If I want to be polite
When I kiss you
I think about not being in my own body
Or questions I can ask to kill the time
Or how I can somehow pull away
While also not starting a fight
When I kiss you
I think about why people don’t peel lemons
Or whether I worked out that day
Or if I ate enough protein
Or how mad you’ll be
If I don’t want to spend the night
