Fresh Faced
Soft, smooth breeze
sends the sweet smell of fresh buds through the screened windows.
Every familiar feeling feels new.
Laying outside on a dirty blanket,
the sun warming my cold fingers and toes
gently being nibbled on by Louie.
His tiny nose flares at the scent in every fresh gust.
This being only his second spring,
there is not one thing outside that doesn’t interest his curious face darting back and forth,
searching for a muse.
His eyes land on Mitt,
a stallion to his puppy eyes.
Her dirty, black coat looks sleek to him.
His body goes still,
watching her every move,
wondering why she isn’t so fixed on him.
Maybe one day he’ll catch her eye.

My brother just got a new puppy, Louie, and I have been obsessed ever since. He is lovely, but my dog, Mitt, doesn't seem to feel the same. She is fifeteen years old, so having a puppy around isn't the most enjoyable thing for her. But I'm hoping that one day she will warm up to him!
