Waves like green sickness spew
Forth from the maw of the sea.
Acidic tongues lick the surface

When white crests climax
Then crash beneath the depths.
Frothy foam is nudged out to sea.

Sailors in antiquity supposed
The sea ended at an edge, a precipice,
Sheer descent down to Hell.

Sometimes while swimming
I feel the same, limp limbs
Jostling with the waves.

Damp hair teased by tiny ripples,
The susurrus sea murmurs in my mind.
Its tune echoes through my body,

I sense its ceaseless vibrations,
Tweaking every tremoring tendon,
Pulsating every bursting blood cell.

I yield to its splashing strokes,
The sublime weight of the water
Crusting my skin with salt.

I ponder as I float,
I wonder what is waiting for me
On the periphery, the fringe.

On the other side of the edge.
I drift to discover, anxious I am late
On my vicious voyage down to

Fate.
