Average attracts average. I want you to be allergic to average. Only then will you be successful-Eric Thomas

i.

turn away, don’t look at my face
too late it is, sorry to say
that you are gone forever now
the absence of a final bow

lost forever, a bottle in the ocean
hastily scribbled “help me” but useless;
if you die tomorrow then so will I
a soul trapped in a bottle of ice

grabbing sand but it slips through my fingers
and falls in a dark hole forever lingers
in a soul destroyed by regret and hate
a twisted mind of his, of fate

forever gone you are to me
but the crystal ball clearly sees
it’s better off with you over there
and I carry on with my things over here

ii.

two pairs of gleaming rubies
shine out of a mundane grey,
and a dashing flair of charcoal black
intrigues my heart and mind

(sun sets behind a pearly tower
I see you laughing and turn
and I snap a quick picture-
forever saved)

if I saw before, it was nothing
but a strange outfitting of lies and
beetles eating each other out of
love and hate and friendship

(snuggle close to me put
your head on my shoulder link
your arm through mine press
your body on mine)

jewels and gems don’t say
“goodbye” they only tell you what
it means to be alive and to
be alive you must…

(hi I say hi you say
ohmygod stop you giggle
ok I laugh but I don’t and you
fall in my arms)

burning incense tickles my nose,
dancing embers bounce through the air
and purple and red and blue and green
flash through the sky like exploding epiphanies

(run into class you are late burying
your nose in your notebook studying
you bump into me and I stumble and I
fall into a red marshmallow sweet and savory)

alive, I suddenly feel entrapped by
something I don’t understand
I am alive and I run and I hide
but I can’t find the meaning much longer

(go away stay with me can you help
I don’t get this you say ok I say I explain to
you and you get it and I smile and so do you and
we leave together)

iii.

where must you be now?
sitting on a plane to whoknowswhere-
hell perhaps-I hope I wish I want
to see you burn but I

want to see you burn in
my flames
and my flames only and they are pink
and blue
and they are warm flames;
they tickle and keep you company

and these flames they are immortal,
invisible to you but they are
wherever you go and if I see you
in hell, I hope
you remember my name and smile

come back soon, whatever you do
-remember my only name true-
for even though Paris is beautiful,
It is much windier without you.

The author's comments:

Written in a pretty romantic part of my life, this poem was inspired by a girl I met and loved, before she moved back to China and left me with nothing (but memories). It represents a lot of regrets-there are a lot of things I need to tell her, but I can't (due to the Great Firewall of China!). I hope this inspires others to never let go of what you have. :)
