why does the murky water flow over the stones
so that the pearly round pebbles
lick the dust and crush the skulls

old, old factories
itchy with rust,
brown and dry,
scaly eczema skin;

they pump out their bowels
and leak into the river,
cry their tears into the flood.

purple plumes proliferate,
choking air from fish,
the black tar
glues to the birds to the water,
the Styrofoam
chokes the frogs, clogging their mouths-

      -as the grasses arch into the air,
      reaching for the sunlight,
      grasping for the skies,
      before suddenly
collapsing in rage,
twisting and bending,
ratcheting in terror,
watching helplessly their green leaves
turn slowly brown and crisp…

…and so I will wipe out from the face of the earth every being that I have made.
