Every quote I have read has inspired me in a certain way. Because of this, I can not choose just one.

I'm not that good with words
Poetry isn't really my forte
But there is something I feel I need to say
There seems to be a cultural misunderstanding
A misunderstanding in which I once partaked
A misunderstanding that most definitely needs to be set straight
Everyone has different reason
And I can only speak for myself
I want to tell you why I'm proud to be me
I look in the mirror, I see
Big eyes
Large nose
Fat lips
And it makes me smile
Because it's the same thing that kept me from smiling for a while
I used to dream of rosy cheeks with freckles all over
Blue eyes
Red lips
Peachy skin
The definition of beautiful
Or so I thought
But now I finally see
The Black Beautiful Me
I hear the volume in my voice
See the shape in my thighs
Feel the largeness of my eyes
Finally I'm proud to be proud
So proud it almost makes me cry
So many sisters today they don't feel this way
So I write this to set the record straight
There is nothing wrong with the way a black girl strides
And black girls need to know that they should hold their head up in pride

It's taken me so long to come to this point of acceptance and usually I don't broadcast my work, but I feel that something needs to be said.
