Revolution is born from hope, not despair.

Dear boy,

I have always been a poet

Scribbling middle school angst on the frayed insides of binder covers

Stanzas have always held priority space over science notes

But you, dear boy, you've got me thinking about science

1) I was never into physics

Velocity, speed, and acceleration were always the same thing to me
and to be quite honest, there were too many equations taking up way too much time

and who really cared about how fast we were going when we knew we were gonna crash?

He was the hijacker who snuck into the plane and

You were the pilot speaking into the overhead, “prepare for a crash landing”

Saving me from messy heartaches, telling me I deserved better.

2) I was never into chemistry.

Perhaps it was the bitter sulfur burning in my stomach every time he manipulated me

Perhaps it was the way he made me feel like I was on Cloud 9 for a split second

But helium never lingers for long, helium is the lightest element,

love cannot be built on the weakest of foundations because we’d find ourselves dissolving.

The element gold is not found in nature the way you may picture it sitting inside a bank vault

Gold, in its purest form, is soft and moldable

Something so strong doesn’t mean it’s always been like that

You don’t always have to be like that

3) I was never into biology.

In school, we are learning about meiosis and genetics

But I always catch myself asking,

why rely on science when chance was another big factor?

You were one in a million

because nothing will ever justify to me how perfectly your chromosomes are laced together,

You are a beautiful human being

Born from a beautiful Chinese woman and a handsome Russian man,

Asia and Europe never met in perfect harmony until the creation of you

4) I was never into astronomy.

For two years, he was the black hole that no one ever really noticed

Suctioning everything good within his grasp with false promises and pretenses

The insides of my lungs had never yearned more for a breath of fresh air

You reminded me how beautiful the stars were

How oxygen was no longer a possibility in space only to give enough room for the admiration the constellations deserve

How they’re supposed to literally take our breaths away

When you look at me, your breath stops

Your eyes never leave my face

You reminded me how beautiful the dark can sometimes be.

Dear boy,

I am a firm believer in destiny and soul mates because science only explains so much until the unexplainable triumphs

I mean Newton must’ve been thinking about the girl of his dreams while he was sitting under that apple tree

We were not placed on this planet simply to run around with the lack of a predestined journey

and I’m glad it’s led me to you.
