Girls' 200 Meter Freestyle Relay
I grip the edge of the pool, my knuckles turning as white as a pearl.
“Swimmers place your feet.”
“Take your mark.”
BEEEEEEP!
The water slaps my face as I sling shot into the water.
Suddenly, I’m alive.
I can breathe.
My feet roar like a motor in a furious flutter kick.
My heart pounds.
My arms soar in and out of the water, sending beads of water shooting in all directions.
I am flying.
I dive below the surface.
Making a 180% turn, I launch off the wall like a rocket.
I flip.
And fly back to where I started.
Not slowing, I slam into the wall,
And the next girl dives.
