It is never too late to be who you might have become.
-George Elliot

A regular day, just like any other
Starting the same as always
So dreary and slow
Wake up and go about your fixed routine
Head off to work now, don’t be late
We can’t wait to finish our work and go home
A shadow passes overhead briefly
Bang, smash, rumble
The ground shakes beneath our feet
Panic chokes my throat, depriving me of air
What happened? I don’t know…
Smoke blocks my vision
I smell the fire and feel its heat
Get downstairs, hurry now
It’s too slow, there’s too many people
The floor shakes again beneath my feet and my ears are filled with another loud boom
Oh God, just let me go home
Please, please, please move faster
The shaking starts again, even worse now
Screams, so many screams combining to make a loud roar
The roof above me collapses, and I feel no more
Now my soul is safely carried away in the columns of smoke
Goodnight city, don’t forget me
