Twinkling sparks drift in the dark, an inferno ignites above.

Try to conceal, dismayed I feel, flames scorch my veil, smitten with love.

Beg and plead, I never concede, into the void, I’m erased.

This is a Sijo Poem.

This piece is ambiguous, but it is mainly referring to a fear of God, knowing one is unacceptable in the face of the lord. The charachter is a sinner and he/she knows it, but does not admit their wrongdoings, only begs forgiveness.  True contrition is the only way towards redemption.  In the poem the punishment for this lack of contrition is annulment (yet perhaps it is a reward to the sinner.)

It also is a gesture towards the fact that sinners could find heaven to be hellish, (referring to god's light as an inferno) knowing they are undeserving of eternal happiness, they would be ridden with guilt and inevitably fear god.
