As the tree sways, I sway with it
Its limbs become my limbs
My feet become its roots
Embedded in the heart of the town
Embedded in the past
We watch the town lights flicker out before us
And the shadows start to creep over the looming houses
Standing on this desolate hill I feel that I am a bird released from its cage
Watching over the village of its weary past
A place where my hopes and dreams were once birthed
But now lies before me like an unfamiliar shadow of my past
I feel as secluded standing on this empty hill
As I did standing in the midst of the town and it’s so called life
They no longer know me and I no longer care
Stretching my branches into the wind one last time
I allow the tree to take me were it wants
To let me drift away to a new destination
I let it guide me to a purpose
I am just a mere seed
On a massive tree
About to be carried away by the wind
To find a new place
To strive and grow
Maybe somewhere beyond those mountains looming over
The vast plain that seems to stretch on forever
Or through the storm ridden valley to a new purpose
Where happiness isn’t scavenged for like a vulture hunts for its prey
Maybe beyond these desolate plains
There is hope
