I am from blue waves rocking me back and forth
  Wind fighting the sails.
I am from gliding blades across the rigid ice.

I am from soaring through the air,
my feet shooting for the clouds.
I am from grasping a pole and reaching over the cross bar.

I am from salty buttery fingers
reaching into the bowl for more...
I am from family movie nights.

I am from two feet pounding the pavement at a rhythmic pace
Deep breaths as fatigue comes over me.
I am from a racing heart after a long run.

I am from a strong hatred of feet rubbing together...
Like oil and water, can’t mix
I am from the desire to cut myself free of body.

I am from the echo of a voice yelling “Hail”
The pitter patter of hail hitting the windows in a dark storm
I am from a nickname of pellets of frozen rain that pours from storm clouds.

I am from a sore neck tilted back to look into someone’s eyes
Being at the end of the line of shortest to tallest.
I am from repeatedly being told, “you are short.”

I am from red swollen eyes deepened with horror,
A young heart not ready to part
I am from seeing death swallow someone up at nine years old.

I am from a past, present, and future that is continually changing me
Just one girl hiking along the trail of life.
I am from an idea that where I am from will never change.
