They look at me, hopeful faces
expecting knowledge and wisdom
I am silent
They shout at me, red faces
expecting apologies and redemption
I am silent
They smile at me, bright faces
expecting laughter and humor
I am silent
They cry for me, pale faces
expecting pain and sadness
I am silent
They care for me, worried faces
expecting reciprocation and love
I am silent
Finally, they die for me, blank faces
expecting atonement and regret
I remain silent.
