After the rain

The gassy exhaust
fills the garage with a haze.
My four-wheeler idles
waking the sleeping dogs.
Heading down the puddled driveway
sun setting through the clouds.
Across the fast moving rocky river bed
a family of deer graze in wet hay.
Tires grip the big rocky hill
fallen mossy logs block the clearing.
Heavy rain eroded the trail
slipping, spinning, sloppy mud.
The sky quickly darkens
Cold night winds bite my face.
The bright glow of the house
leads me back home.
