You are described as edible
yet insipid and unlike a
more famous family member
you contain dormant versions of yourself.
To many, you are undesirable.
You are labeled as false.
Still you reach forward in
the scorching African sun,
the majestic rustle of your
banana-like leaf blades.
Sixteen feet off the humble ground
you are a vision of hope to those
who look upon your fruit not to scoff
but to enjoy, as you are a staple in
densely populated parts of Ethiopia
You are living history seen
with the pharaohs by the Nile.
You may be a false banana but there
is nothing false about your beauty.
