The Weight of Rain

The branches of the great tree sway
The wind pushing them through the air
Making them dace for its pleasure

Nate feels his hair get blown from his face
Dancing to the same tune as the trees
The sun no longer warms his back
For it had ducked behind the grey blanket of clouds

Nate raps his windbreaker around his shoulders to keep the chill out
The squirrels and bird hurry to their nests
Attempting to prepare for the upcoming storm

He slides down the tree trunk
And his feet hit the sturdy ground
He starts to run the half mile back home

But the rain has already started
At first it pitter-patters onto his shoulders
Gently damping his hair,
But then it thunders down
Beating against his scalp
And dripping through his jacket.
Nate stops running,
And reaches for the ground.

He slowly rested his head on the dirt
His chest facing up.
He feels each rain drop smack onto it
His clothes are soaked and
He relaxes in the thunder of the storm
Letting the angst of the weather calm him

Before he smiles
Nate has accomplished more than a simple trip into the woods
A weight has flown away from his shoulders and is gone
