I remember your
kitchen walls
painted a sunny yellow

I remember smiling
into my chipped mug that
I was gripping so tightly,
watching the milk
swirl in lazy circles

I remember your
infectious laughter,
and not being able
to refrain from
giggling beside you

I remember perky
daisies standing at
attention in a vase
made of crystal

Your paint is
chipped now,
sunny yellow
turned sad

Your cupboards
are empty,
void of chipped
mugs and lingering grins

I haven’t heard
your laugh in a while,
your face has become hollow
Your daisies are dead,
crystal vase
shattered,
I guess you’re kind of like
a dead flower now.

A memory of something
that used to be beautiful,
but now just seems
overwhelming sad.
