Glass
all around
shards upon shards upon
shards

Shards hit light
Light hits shards
And reflects
across each corner of the room

Through the room it weaves its spell
Bouncing and dancing
Laughing and
Taunting

Taunting me
to come
take a look
in the depths of the broken glass

Into the broken glass I look
I see someone stare back
Back
at me

At me she stares back
With empty brown eyes
Limp brown hair
Emaciated body

The body is mine
I know for sure
But the person in it is not me
I mumble to her, I know for sure

Surely there is a mistake
But into her soul I look
And I know
I know

I know I am lying to her
to myself
for I have become the person
I never wanted to be

I never wanted to be you, I scream at her
Hot tears scald my cheeks
My fingers clutch at my hair
As I slowly sink down to the ground

On the ground I see
A girl hollow inside
A shell
A lost soul

A soul that got lost in a ruthless world
A soul that realized to late the world isn’t all butterflies
A soul that believed and was deceived
A soul that made too many mistakes

Mistakes gnaw at the insides
Eating her, eating me alive
So much guilt
Too much

Too much guilt surrounds me, surrounds her
I scream and scream
She screams and screams
Enough

Enough I scream
And I look into the glass again
And I see
Oh I see

I see a girl who has endured too much
A girl who has lived and died and lived and died
She fell and drowned
She crashed and burned

Burned and has scars to prove it
But she has come out alive
Alive and powerful
A girl with a future

A girl with a future
A girl that can hold her head high
And say
I survived

I survived she says back to me
And now I look into the glass
And see
Who I want to be
