Fading
The city shines in the night’s darkness
Rain pelts the glistening cobblestones
People rush by
Ducking into the near pastry shops
But we scramble in search for a bus
Worry bites at my stomach
What happens if we don’t find one?
But within minutes
All that worry is gone
Because she holds my hand
She’s my protector
I am safe
?

Memories
While the useless ones leave us
With the uninteresting story they tell
The important ones always stay
They are what make us rejoice with pride
Or wither with remorse
Or even laugh at our mistakes
They always stay

But what if
One day
They slowly begin to crumble
Disintegrate
Dissolve
Each one deliberately at first
Teasingly
And then suddenly
Gone

To think this happens
Even I didn’t believe
Until she started to lose it
Her memory

But her love for us stays
Words begin to disappear
But her love for us stays
Names begin to leave her
But her love for us stays

And even as her memory
Slowly begins to crumble
Disintegrate
Dissolve
Even though she is no longer my protector
She still holds my hand
And that is when I know
Her love will stay
And so will we
