"Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and, therefore, the foundation of all invention and innovation. In its arguably most transformative and revelatory capacity, it is the power that enables us to empathize with humans whose experiences we have never shared."
—J.K. Rowling

“You’re beautiful” –
You said it to me as you unstuck your lips
From mine –
Whispered it like the secret you treated it like.
And I liked that it was a secret between us.
Like the soft kisses
That lasted years.
And I felt so much
All at once.
It was so wonderful
To be craved
In such a sweet way.
That was the word of the night – “sweet.”
Sweet were your lips, your hands, your words,
Enveloping me in a cocoon of honey and
Spun sugar.
Like a high-pitched giggle
In a conversation packed with tension.
So in our makeshift fort
In the dark where no one ventures,
You told me I was beautiful
And I believed you
Because I knew you were right.
I could tell because I could feel your nerves.
It was like you were emitting a soft electrical current.
And you made me wait, slowly
Filling me with static electricity
Until we had no choice but to
Be together.
It was magnetic – out of our control.
Everything I felt was intensified
By how sweet and slow everything was.
And I was happy.
