Waking at the first sign of dusk,
stretching out majestic wings,
moving as silent as the night,
he takes flight with one powerful thrust.

Soaring beneath the clouds,
hidden in the inky darkness.
A mouse emerges in the clearing.
This could be his only chance.

Betrayed by the light of the moon,
his shadow reveals his intent.
The mouse begins his escape,
avoiding the enlarging shadow.

With powerful wings and mammoth-like talons,
the owl prepares to kill.
He swivels his wings,
spreading his talons wide.

The owl emerges victorious,
the mouse a trophy of his hunt.
For tonight he will rest,
for tomorrow he will hunt again.
