The wolf, stalks its prey
waiting for an easy target,
hoping for a prize.
Step…Skulk...Snarl...
Watching for hunters
the buffalo, rests its head.
a glorious prize.
Step…Skulk...Snarl...
The wolf is impatient.
The buffalo has fallen,
fallen into sleep.
Step…Snarl...Strike...
The wolf strikes too late.
The buffalo plants its foot
into the wolf’s jaw.
Whimper…Whine...Wither...
A smashed jaw
and unclamping mouth
the wolf cannot hunt again
Struggle...Sleep...Silence
