Bedtime’s here...dreary darkness draws near,
a hollow skull fills when creatures appear.
Bursting colors descend from puffy clouds,
create a rainbow, no darkness allowed.
Roar, buzz, caww, echos through the jungle,
mystic creatures speak a foreign mumble.
Feathers fly, and flutter...a frosty breeze,
as they dance a silent song with mere ease.
Green dinosaurs roar restless, and run free,
through dry air and scorching sand, they chase me.
Madagascar mammoths march, moving West,
hairy skin makes them a welcomed guest.
Buzzing sounds approach...is that a bee?
Nope, time for my alarm to awake me.

I dream too...after tonight’s reading,
a story to my child who lay beaming.
But, I experience a deflated joy,
pity for a kind that’s only a toy.
An adult, all colors turn a grim grey,
no longer a safari they portray.
Caught being captive...lost in extinction,
    decaying collagen it’s distinction.
Mind racing and seeing what could’ve been,
creatures passed by my eyes again.
I wish to enter the mind of my child,
blue-filled skies and experience the wild.
Lightness fading darkness...now time to wake,
escaping this adult dream for my sake.
