My Nana

As the ocean beats the rocks,
The fingers tear the pages,
The heels crush the insects,
The hate destroys the love,

Those are the sounds I hear,
The sights I see,
As my Nana rocks me to sleep,
As the flower petals begins to wilt,

I sneak up in the early sun,
She sits reading in the rays,
Glasses on her nose,
Fingers on a page,

The years will slowly slip by,
I’ll begin to worry,
Sneaking up to find her sleeping,
Worried I’ll find it never ending,

She’s always forgetting,
I’m always remembering,
The moments and seconds tick by,
The memories seem to stop,

True intentions make their way to the surface,
The family feels the pressure,
An army has lost its leader,
The leader’s lost the army.
