Playing Pretend

When my mother first got the phone call,
everything collapsed onto the floor.
Somewhere between nothing and everything,
there was no gravity there.
There was no gravity in the empty space,
the empty space that you have left behind.
It makes me so sad to know that
you'll never get the chance to live.
All you did was survive,
but even that couldn't last.
It’s haunting to think,
that there we were,
in Alabama,
and within a year,
you decided that pulling a trigger,
was a much easier answer than living.
I realized then that,
You played pretend,
until playing pretend
didn't work anymore
I realized then,
that you were just simply pretending.
Pretending the sadness was gone,
pretending you were stronger than you actually were,
pretending to hold on,
pretending to live.

This was so heartbreaking. I almost cried reading this. Wonderful work. Keep on writing.
