Sea of faces , no people behind
Through filters, and edits you make me blind
To what lies beneath
Values and beliefs
Thoughts and dreams
You have none
At least it seems.
My mind teems.
With questions.
Who are you?
Not your shoes
Not your hair
Not a painted mask you wear
How you contort your face
In all sorts of shapes
Duck face, pouted lips
Thrusted chest and broken hips!
Filtered black and white
Spots out of sight
Stomach held in
So I can feel thin
It quickly becomes clear, you don't see me
You merely see who I want to be
A face in that vast sea of faces with no one behind
And through the ironic spectacle I am blind
Utopian concepts, for NOW, don't mean much
They are merely concepts and should be treated as such
So I ask you for facts
For the truth not an act
So I ask again
Aside from this skewed view
Who are you ?
Normally the answer is "I don't know"
Or a timid smile, unwilling to show
Sometimes personalities are lost to a group
Like chickens babbling within a coop
Who laugh and jeer
And sneer "who is this queer?!"
Over the walls they peer
And I stand near
With no sense of fear
And will be completely clear
About who I am
and that for which I stand
But there is one thing I don't understand
To relinquish your souls at the feet of a band
One direction your heading for the ground
For manufactured, same old sound
For selling your soul don't you want something more?
Than pretty faces, not one but four
The most important thing
those faces aren't yours
So I ask once again who are you?
Afford to me the first glimpse through
While behind those masks you've chosen to hide
Shrivelled and withered
what was once inside
Left untendered
Personality unrendered
Individuality dismembered
To become a member
Of crowds of members
Of bands
And of brands
Happiness something chosen from a stand
Worth nothing more than cash paid in hand
Hollister, G-Star and Gucci jeans
People made up by threads and seams
And edits and filters which make me blind
No matter how hard I try to find
Something deeper that lies beneath
To industries and popularity instead bequeathed
