The Best Thing I Ever Ate
Like a defibrillator
On a naked chest-
Rain in the Sahara,
Droplets on a tongue,
That thought this day
Would never come-
Wind against a sunburnt face
The hot-sticky breathes in red-hot color,
The sweat dries to salt.
All has not been lost-
Feet running from a fire,
Almost consumed in flame, smothered into soot,
Suddenly the ground feels like heaven
And the world gleams gold.
This is how sweet the butter-
How delicious the bread,
And I can't help but wonder
If it's all in my head.
Because you are here, so all is right.
Even food stinking of death would taste of life.
