Lottery Ticket This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

on the side of the road
lying there
curled up from rain
faded numbers
a hope
a wish
knowing the odds
someone dreaming of something more
but it’s not special
it’s not the jackpot
or even five dollars
thrown to the ground out of anger and frustration
but it just gently floats the way paper does
which really makes it more aggravating
sealed with the stamp of a sneaker
accused for being what it is
not a winner
just a worthless piece of litter
cast away
shriveling to nothingness
from the rain
