"Our scars have the power to remind us that the past is real."

They always said
That women on ships were bad luck
They just angered the ocean
And made the ships get stuck.

The sailors were afraid
Of the singing girls
So they tossed them over the side
With their dresses and pearls.

The women were doomed
For their legs were bound
The men were certain
They would never be found.

The women screamed as they fell
But were met with only water
They struggled so much
Trying to escape the slaughter.

As the salty water filled their lungs
They finally accepted defeat
They slowly let themselves sink
They realized their lives were complete.

But suddenly, something changed
Their feet stung and their lungs gasped
As they morphed to the water
And to their throats they grasped.

And then
They took a breath
Their feet wove together
Their gills escaped death.

Realizing the power
They turned their heads towards the sky
With a new task in mind
They rose with a war cry.

They finally broke the surface
The water no longer making them blind
They began their search
With only revenge on their mind.

When they finally found the sailors
They drew them in with their voices
Slew them without mercy
Taught them to make better choices.
