A web is strong, held by spider nano-thread.
Webs are weaved for safety
To wrap around something precious.
Webs are weaved for comfort
To warm and hold the lost.
Webs are weaved to make a home
The spider providing for its young.
Webs are weaved for food
The fisherman, a trap for spiders’ prey.
Webs are weaved for deceit
To mislead and confuse someone, for our own means.
Webs are weaved for a sense of security
Weaved around someone who may be lost already.
Webs are weaved to hold it all in.
We weave a web of safety every time we hold someone near.
We weave a web of comfort every time we hug a friend.
We weave our home web every time we create a “nest egg”.
We weave for food whenever we go to the market and “catch” dinner.
We weave a web of deceit whenever we tell a lie, small or large.
We weave a web of security every time we say “they’ll be in our hearts”.
We hold it all in, close, never letting go.

But sometimes webs break.

Like the careless child stepping through a spider’s home,
Other people destroy our webs.
A deceit long practiced, thrown into the light,
A safety net, torn from beneath us,
Someone can shatter our webs with a few words, sometimes fewer.
Webs are not always strong as they appear.
A web of security, thrown away with “there’s been an accident”.
A web of comfort, pitched away with the lure of drugs.
A web of food, tossed into the darkness when a child can’t eat.
Because spider silk is small and tenuous,
Despite its relative strength,
We must cherish and treat every web
As though it has reached the end of its length.
