I remember

   Voices,

       People,

            Lights,

  Cloudy mornings,

            Deep blue nights,

  Eerie shadows,

            Tears of fright,

  And, of course,

            Tears of delight.

I remember

   Warm brown eyes,

And what love beyond them lies,

With what gentleness she spoke -

You can't forget when someone dies.

You learn that memory is all

        That you have left

                  When someone falls.

So I remember,

        Always will,

  Her warm brown eyes,

       The way they'd fill

The empty sections of my heart,

And how the love she gave me still

Will help me never to forget,

And to be grateful, not upset.

I remember,

       I remember.

What more is there left to say?

  I remember what I can't forget.

               Not tomorrow,

                             Not today.

                           I remember...

The author's comments:

This piece is about a lost loved one, as you have probably inferred.  I wrote it originally just for myself, but I want to share it now for the people that can relate to the situation, to the memory of the person or people that they will never forget, and always remember.
