Autumn
Orange, yellow and red
litter the ground like confetti.
The branches are thin and sharp,
holding on to the last straggling leaves.
The anticipation of the nearing
Halloween fills the air.
Pumpkins glow orange in the farm fields.
A chilly breeze runs through the streets
into the park
and over the river.
Leaf piles sit on boulevards,
just awaiting to be jumped in.
Colors are bright and vibrant,
even as life bleeds from the trees.
It’s the misty season of fruitlessness.
