When I Would Wake

If it were up to me
I would sleep till the time
When the sky is done
Rubbing away the sleepy shadows
And blinks open its endless eyes
At the beginning of true day

Then I would dream again
When it’s blank, emotionless afternoon
When the sun is sliding lazily
Through the center of its path
And the whole world is still
Idly musing on past and future

I would wake when it is night
When the stars put on their finery
And come out to waltz with the moon
When the dark-perfumed air sings its enchantment
A dare to attempt something entirely new
A request to come out and dance like the sky

I would not slumber again
Until the deepest magic of night is past
And there are only a few in between hours
Until the sun begins to whisper
And to nudge awake the slumbering sky
Waiting for it to open up its endless eyes.

I LOVE this poem. I try to write as much poetry as I can, and favor it over actual fiction and nonfiction. Usually, I don't read much poetry by other people, as I just can't get into it, but your poem was really good!

Beautiful diction. I'm trying to get better and would love some constructive criticism. Would you mind checking out my work? TeenInk.com/poetry/free_verse/article/678285/Under/
