"After three days without reading, talk becomes flavorless." - Chinese Proverb

I was five, you were six,

a chubby little girl

and a stick thin one.

We met at the pool

and we talked a while.

I was new

to town

you’d lived here

a loooooong

time.

Something clicked

we connected.

Best buds

forever we

promised,

pinky promise.

Schools starting

I move to a new

house,

and turns out we’re

neighbors.

Fate, right?

Inseparable, indivisible

we stick together

like superglue.

Best buds

forever

we promised

cross our hearts.

Now I’m 10, you’re eleven

we’re drifting

apart

too

much.

You’re popular

and I’m not.

What’s happening?

I’m confused.

Best buds

forever

we promised,

I thought.

We’re eighth graders

now,

still a chubby girl

and a stick thin

one, but

no longer

little.

We stick together

again,

gossiping

together

best buds

forever

we promise.

But I’m leaving

and you’re staying

what’s gonna

happen

to us?

Miles will separate

us, so we cherish

the now,

best buds

forever

we promise.

I’ll be eighty-five,

you’ll be eighty-six

we’ll raise our

families

together.

Back then we

promised

best buds

forever,

and we will

do so again.

One final time,

we’ll link our hands

and for the

last time

best buds

forever

we will

promise.

This is about my best friend.  I met her when I was just a five year old, and we've remained best friends since then.  However, I'm moving this year, so this piece is like a goodbye to her.
