A life

My brain is pounding on my skull,
like a prisoner banging on
the blank wall of his empty cell,
nothing but a single bed to keep him company,
I feel trapped,
stuck in my body,
in this life I don’t want,
with people I don’t like,
a past that won’t go away,
my soul swollen to the point of
no longer fitting inside,
my heart restless
as I wear it on my sleeve,
a future that doesn’t exist,
a life no longer worth living
