'Twas christmas day

The swing was creaking

As if a great weight sat upon it,

Which is not entirely false

If each hardship weighed a gram

Then the swing would be holding a ton.

'Twas christmas day

And the swing was creaking

And the boy was sitting, thinking,

And wondering what could have been,

He would have had a place to stay,

Gifts to receive and a reason to believe.

'Twas Christmas day

And the swing was creaking

When i looked out of the window,

A lonely boy was swinging

Wearing a jacket, jeans and thorn sneakers,

And this left me thinking.

'Twas Christmas day

And the swing was creaking

And i was thinking,

What did i do better than him,

Why is it he standing out in the cold

How come its not me?

'Twas christmas day

And the swing was creaking

And suddenly i realized

And life lost its charm

For then i saw how the boy had spent his christmas,

And wished it was me

'Twas christmas day

And the swing was creaking

And i wished the guilt would go away

Why is there such injustice in the world?

Doesn't anybody care?

Why are we here and not there?

'Twas Christmas day

And the swing was creaking

And the fortunate were feasting

While the unfortunate were watching silently

The innocent simply swinging

And somehow, the fortunate seemed unblinking.

 'Twas christmas day

And the swing was creaking

And the lonely boy was swinging, wondering, dreaming

About what would have been,

And i was inside, thinking,

 How, why, for what?
