Losing Everything

It only took a minute for my life to blow up around me,
The feeling,
So helpless,
No control over anything.
The confusion I felt was overwhelming,
Questions swirling around,
Why, how,
What's going on.
Chains were binding,
My body and mind,
The fear and horror,
Keeping me a captive, a slave.
So much worry,
Completely helpless,
Pain like a thousand knives,
Nothing I could do.
To think a minute before,
I took this all for granted,
I never realised what I had,
Until it had been snatched from my grasp.
